A Week at Home

We had a great week this week. We went with the missionaries on several teaching appointments in some of the small communities on the outskirts of Brasov. These small towns are such a change from the hectic busy life of the city.

On several occasions we have seen bathtubs outside next to their well. I guess it helps to not have to carry the water so far.

We had a really good experience in one of the lessons with the Elders. It was a second lesson with a new investigator. He was in his early forties and was interested in finding the truth. He had been reading the Book of Mormon and had many questions. He was quite critical and negative when we arrived. It was so interesting to watch his demeanor and countenance change as the spirit touched his heart. We read many scriptures with him and helped him understand the law of justice and mercy. It was as if a light came on and he said he wanted to be baptized. A date was set for the middle of September. The missionaries taught him how to pray and he knelt down with us and offered his first prayer. He has much to learn and a long way to go before he is ready for baptism. We were so proud of Elder Covey and Elder McAllister. It was one of those tender experiences that we will remember for the rest of our life.

We went to visit Cornelia in Feldioara who broke her leg a couple of months ago and has been in a cast. She was so excited to get the cast off but her leg is still very weak.  This has been a real trial for her. She loves to keep busy and hates to sit still.

When we arrived, we found her sitting on the ground pulling these weeds by the side of the road.

This is Grandma Szekely's turkey. She is very proud of it - it now weighs 20 pounds and she is so excited to eat it this Winter.

This is Maria. She is eight years old and was just baptized.  We picked up her new glasses in town and brought them out to her.  She was so happy to get them.

More fun at McDonalds with the language. We stopped for a hamburger the other day. I said I wanted a "cheeseburger" and they said ok. Then they asked me if I wanted a "fresh cheeseburger"? Of course I said yes. When the order came there were 2 cheeseburgers - if you notice the receipt one is a "cheeseburger" and the other is a "fresh cheeseburger" ???????

Another beautiful sunset after a rain storm.

  1. Makes me worried which burger was the fresh one! Did you eat both? Love the story about that man. The church really brings a special countenance. Thanks for sharing!

  2. How amazing to watch missionary work in action and be apart of it. What an amazing experience. I love the recipe. So I wonder how old the not "fresh burger" was. You know how I am with left overs...
