materials we had left and help with the preparations for the upcoming Single Adult Conference to be held there at the end of the week.
We stayed in a small Vila just down from our old apartment. We loved seeing the Black Sea again.
Sunrises and sunsets are always beautiful. We love Brasov but we miss living on the shore of the Sea.
Constanta was really crowded with tourists. The city is a very popular place for people to come for summer vacation.
We had the six missionaries serving in Constanta help us clean the apartment in the villa above the church. The members coming for the conference will be staying there and it had not really been cleaned since the missionaries moved out earlier in the summer. Missionaries have lived in the villa for 8 years and it really needed some deep cleaning.
They all worked hard and we had lunch together at the local McDonalds.
The fields of sunflowers no longer look yellow. The heads are full of seeds and bending over. The stocks are sticky with sap and we are interested to see how they harvest the heads.
Tuesday, when we returned to Brasov, we picked up Elder and Sister Swenson at the train station. He is the area medical advisor and they work out of Germany. They are in Romania visiting the local clinics and hospitals to determine which ones will provide the best medical care for missionaries if they get sick or injured. They live in Salt Lake where he recently retired. He is a general surgeon and we really enjoyed getting to know them.
We got to accompany Dr. Swenson as he toured the facilities. The Brasov hospitals treated us very well and this hospital let us tour their facility. Elder Powell opted out of the tour of the operating room where Dr. Swenson observed while they preformed surgery
The good news was that several of the hospitals had new modern equipment and Dr. Swenson was very impressed with the quality of care given to the patients.
On Thursday, Elder and Sister Francom came to Brasov to attend the wheelchair training class given to people when they receive a wheelchair from our church. The Francoms are humanitarian missionaries working out of Bucharest. We ate dinner together at a nice restaurant in downtown Brasov. We really enjoyed visiting with them and hearing about some of their humanitarian projects. Our church does so much around the world to help the poor and those suffering that is never publicized. It makes you feel so proud to be a member of our church.
I love reading your updates! You love those sunflowers! Keep us all posted about the harvesting! I know a few boys who are addicted to sunflower seeds. Busy week again for you guys! Hope you're not in too much pain with all that cleaning!
ReplyDeleteI bet it was so fun to see the Black Sea again - was it kind of like "coming home"? Were you able to see some of the members you were working with in the branch as well? Heidi is right, there are quite a few boys who are addicted to sunflower seeds, although Nathan won't be able to eat any for awhile. The apartment looks sparkly clean! I hope you did the sweeping Mom - you are fantastic with a broom! We are so proud to be members of our church and we are so thankful for the help we are able to give to others! That is what Jesus would do!

ReplyDeleteThat villa you stayed at looks so NICE! I am so glad you got to go back and see the Black Sea again. It looks like a really pretty place. I'm with Glade, I would have stayed away from the surgury room. It would have made me tingle...
