New District



It was transfers again this week and we had to say goodbye to two of our missionaries, Sister Drotar and Elder Montoya. We will miss them. We've been together a long time. We wish them well on their new assignments

Hello to our new district. The Brasov district increased from 4 missionaries to 6. We welcome Sister Ralls, Elder Speyer, Elder Houk and Elder McBride (our new district leader).

With the new set of Elders arriving, we had to find another apartment for them. It took a week to finally find one that would work. They were excited to have their own apartment, after having 4 missionaries staying in a 2 person apartment. We helped them move in and Elder Powell helped install their water filter system.

We traveled out to a small town called Hoghiz (about a 2 hr drive north of Brasov) to find a member that had just moved there from Rome, Italy.

This is Lucian Sabau. He was baptized in Rome about 6 months ago and returned to Romania to live with his father. We often have members that are baptized where the church is strong and then move out into small towns where there is no church support. It is difficult because it is too far for them to travel to attend church meetings. We try to visit them once a month to check on them and bring them the sacrament.

The roads to these small towns are often dirt roads that are poorly maintained which makes for a difficult trip. We got stuck in the mud on our way to Beia to visit another member. We had a nice visit and then they helped push us out of the mud.

We keep a "treat box" in the car for when we travel. The missionaries often use it when they don't stop for lunch. It's difficult to find places to eat when you're traveling in these small towns.

We also have a "sacrament box" with the items needed to administer the sacrament. It has been very helpful many times. It is a special experience to bring the sacrament to members who are not able to partake of it regularly and they are so grateful. It is very humbling and often brings tears to our eyes. We think of our young grandsons who are new deacons whenever Elder Powell passes the sacrament.

We usually take Primary materials with us when we travel so that the young children can be included in the lessons.

 

The streets in Romania are typical narrow European streets. Sometimes they look scary at night but we have always felt safe.

We had zone training in Sibiu. Elder Covey is still our zone leader and does an excellent job. It was fun to see him again. It is amazing to see these young missionaries teaching the gospel in such a powerful way. We continually learn from them.

Our district helped with the training. Sister Bray and Sister Ralls work so well together. Their lesson was on companionship unity and they even dressed alike.

Elder McBride and Elder Brown also assisted in the training.

Elder Covey's mother, Jeri Covey, sent everyone in our zone copies of 2 CD's she had recorded with her own original songs. She has a beautiful voice and great talent. She also sent each of the sisters a scarf and the elders a tie.

 

For P-Day, our new district came to our apartment for a game night. We taught them how to play dork and 6 down. It was fun to get to know them and we had a lot of fun.
